Davao City Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte, the younger brother of Vice President Sara Duterte, has been subpoenaed to testify in her Senate impeachment trial on Sept. 23.
The impeachment court also ordered lawyer Gary Samonte and Police Major Jericho Sangalang to appear, although their schedules may change depending on the progress of earlier witnesses.
Private prosecutor Benjamin “Jay” Tolosa Jr. said Baste is expected to be questioned about possible dealings between the Davao City government and Gencorp Industries Inc., in which Sara declared herself a stockholder.
Reports earlier said Gencorp had around P14.32 million in transactions with the Davao City government from 2022 to 2025, although the prosecution has yet to present evidence establishing those transactions.
Tolosa said Baste is required to appear under the subpoena and could be declared a hostile witness if his interests are found to be adverse to the prosecution.
