Mugshots of Leyte Rep. Martin Romualdez were released to the public, showing the former House speaker in a yellow detainee shirt and black pants following his transfer to the New Quezon City Jail Male Dormitory.
Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla said Romualdez is staying in the facility’s infirmary under medical supervision based on recommendations from doctors at the Philippine General Hospital.
Romualdez is required to undergo a weekly electrocardiogram and may receive visits from family members, lawyers, and doctors from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., except Mondays.
The lawmaker, who is facing a ₱7.4-billion plunder case linked to the flood control corruption scandal, was ordered detained by the Sandiganbayan Third Division.
The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology said his placement in the infirmary is due to his medical needs and the recommendation presented to the court.
