The House prosecution panel filed its formal offer of evidence ahead of the Oct. 23 deadline to prevent delays in the resumption of Vice President Sara Duterte’s impeachment trial on Nov. 9, private prosecutor Lorna Kapunan said.
The submission supports the remaining impeachment charge of unexplained wealth after prosecutors withdrew the three other articles involving confidential funds, bribery, and grave threats.
The evidence includes financial records, corporate interests, transactions, and testimony allegedly involving Duterte and her husband, Manases Carpio.
The early filing gives the defense time to submit comments and objections and allows the impeachment court to rule on the admissibility of evidence before the next hearing.
Kapunan also noted that the defense must identify its witnesses five days before the trial resumes to allow subpoenas to be issued and the prosecution to prepare for cross-examination.
