Manila 3rd District Rep. Joel Chua criticized Sen. Imee Marcos for suggesting that the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte was being rushed to improve the Philippines’ international image, saying her remarks could indicate bias.
Chua stressed that senator-judges must remain politically impartial and avoid comments that could appear to favor either side.
He also urged them to observe the sub judice rule, which restricts public statements that could influence ongoing court proceedings.
House lead prosecutor Batangas 2nd District Rep. Gerville “Jinky Bitrics” Luistro clarified that the impeachment court, not the prosecution, controls the pace of the trial.
The proceedings are scheduled to resume on Nov. 9, when Duterte’s defense team is expected to present its evidence.
