The House Budget Amendments Review Subcommittee (BARSc) approved an additional P16 billion for the Department of Agriculture’s 2027 budget to support farmers, fisherfolk, and preparations for the expected impact of Super El Niño.
The proposed amendments include funding for fertilizer assistance, solar-powered irrigation and ice plants, agricultural transport infrastructure, farm-to-market roads, fish ports, and high-value crops.
Around P4.96 billion of the additional funding is proposed for farm-to-market road programs, while P10 billion is earmarked for Presidential Assistance to Farmers and Fisherfolk.
The 2027 National Expenditure Program currently allocates about P198.45 billion to the Department of Agriculture under the proposed P7.2-trillion national budget.
The amendments will boost programs aimed at strengthening the agriculture and fisheries sectors and helping communities prepare for extreme dry conditions.
