Former Senate president Franklin Drilon said Senator Mark Villar’s transfer to the Senate majority bloc could mean an additional vote for the conviction of Vice President Sara Duterte in her impeachment trial.
In a DWIZ interview on Saturday, Oct. 10, Drilon said Villar’s move was a “dagdag sa boto sa conviction.”
Villar left the minority bloc led by Senate Minority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano last Thursday, becoming the 14th member of the Senate majority.
However, Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri denied that Villar’s move was intended to secure another vote for Duterte’s conviction.
Zubiri stressed that senators’ decisions on conviction or acquittal would depend on the evidence presented during the trial, regardless of their bloc affiliation.
