More than 800,000 motorcycles were sold in the Philippines from January to May as consumers increasingly shifted to more fuel-efficient transport amid rising fuel prices.
Federation of Asian Motorcycle Industries (FAMI) data showed sales reached 811,397 units, up 8.8 percent from the same period last year, with strong monthly growth also recorded in May.
The increase came alongside easing inflation and slower transport price hikes, particularly for gasoline and diesel, according to government data.
Analysts said demand is expected to remain strong, as motorcycles offer lower fuel, purchase, and maintenance costs than four-wheeled vehicles.
The Philippines also ranked second among FAMI member countries in motorcycle sales, behind Indonesia.
