Medical experts warn that dengue cases in the Philippines remain high due to the absence of a vaccine, outdated clinical management, and limited community participation.
PMA Ad hoc Committee on Dengue Advocacy members, including Dr. Lulu Bravo and Dr. Florentina Uy, emphasized the need for better understanding, household action, and multi-sector cooperation to combat the disease.
Former Health Undersecretary Dr. Enrique Tayag noted that while dengue cases and deaths decreased in 2025, the mortality reduction was smaller than the decline in cases, highlighting ongoing concerns.
As of February 14, 2026, the Department of Health recorded 14,907 dengue cases, a 70% drop from the same period last year.
PMA president Dr. Hector Santos urged the government to approve the new-generation Qdenga vaccine by Takeda, which is distinct from the controversial Dengvaxia, to help prevent further dengue deaths.
