PNP, CHR CAUTION PUBLIC OVER SHARING VIOLENT STUDENT ATTACK FOOTAGE

The Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) have urged the public to stop sharing videos and photos of the recent school shooting in Tacloban City and other school attacks, saying the content retraumatizes victims and their families.

The agencies also appealed to the public and the media not to post identifying information about the children involved, while calling on content creators to remove the graphic footage from social media.

The appeal follows three separate school attacks within a week, including the June 22 shooting at San Jose National High School in Tacloban that left three students dead and 20 others injured, as well as two stabbing incidents in Cavite.

PNP chief Police Gen. Jose Melenci Nartatez Jr. said the Anti-Cybercrime Group has been directed to track the spread of the videos and coordinate with social media platforms for their possible removal or restriction.

Meanwhile, the CHR called for an investigation into how the firearms used in the Tacloban shooting were obtained and urged authorities to strengthen school safety and enforce child protection laws without militarizing campuses.
