The Philippine Competition Commission and the Independent Electricity Market Operator of the Philippines, Inc. have signed a memorandum of agreement to strengthen cooperation to promote fair competition in the country’s power sector.
Signed on June 9, the agreement establishes a framework for monitoring and addressing anti-competitive practices and other concerns covered by the Philippine Competition Act.
Under the partnership, IEMOP will provide market data and reports to support oversight efforts, while the PCC will offer technical guidance in identifying potential competition issues.
The two organizations will also conduct joint reviews of market information and capacity-building activities for personnel and participants in the wholesale electricity spot market.
Officials said the collaboration is expected to improve competition monitoring, enhance institutional efficiency, and help maintain a stable and competitive electricity market.
