Malacañang clarified that the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) has already received its full P41-million budget, disputing former commissioner Rogelio “Babes” Singson’s claim that the funds never reached the agency.
The delay in disbursement was attributed to the modified payment system, not a lack of government support, allowing pending reimbursements, such as Baguio Mayor Benjie Magalong’s P30,000 advance, to be settled.
President Marcos accepted Singson’s resignation due to health reasons, expressing gratitude for his service.
The Palace emphasized that while the ICI is limited by Executive Order No. 94 and cannot penalize, Congress is working on bills to strengthen its investigative powers.
Discussions on potentially folding the ICI into the Ombudsman’s office have not progressed, according to officials.
