Cavite Rep. Lani Mercado-Revilla urged Congress to review the TRAIN Law to reduce personal income taxes and ease the financial burden on middle-class Filipinos.
She highlighted that middle-income families are heavily taxed yet receive little support, and allowing them to retain more income would help manage rising costs while boosting consumption and the economy.
Revilla also called for reassessment of the Expanded Value-Added Tax (EVAT) and reforms to electricity charges, citing unfair costs and inefficiencies that strain households.
She stressed the need for improved access to affordable healthcare, noting that many middle-class families lack coverage and are at risk of financial distress from medical expenses.
Finally, Revilla pushed for a multi-committee investigation and national consultation to create a comprehensive relief package addressing taxation, high living costs, and the absence of safety nets for working families.
