President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. announced new aid packages for 7.5 million low-income households to help ease the impact of rising commodity prices linked to tensions in the Middle East.
Beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program and Walang Gutom Program will receive a one-time P2,000 cash assistance, while other qualified households will get monthly aid until December.
The government allocated P12.375 billion for the UPLIFT program, which aims to support vulnerable sectors affected by rising fuel and goods prices.
Marcos said the assistance will be distributed through digital platforms to ensure orderly and timely delivery.
Meanwhile, migrant workers’ groups urged the government to assist thousands of Filipino seafarers stranded in the Middle East amid the ongoing conflict.
