JINGGOY ESTRADA’S BAIL BID REJECTED ANEW BY SANDIGANBAYAN

The Sandiganbayan Fifth Division has affirmed its earlier decision denying Sen. Jinggoy Estrada’s bid for temporary freedom, saying it remained unconvinced by his reliance on the 2015 Enrile ruling.

The court said Estrada’s circumstances are different from those of former Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile, whose bail was granted partly because of his advanced age, fragile health, and humanitarian considerations.

Estrada is facing a P573-million plunder case over alleged illegal budget insertions and project allocations in the Department of Public Works and Highways’ 2025 infrastructure projects, which he has denied.

Meanwhile, Estrada refused to enter a plea during his arraignment on Thursday, prompting the court to enter a not guilty plea on his behalf.

The ruling keeps Estrada’s request for bail without a hearing denied.
