President Marcos said Thailand and Cambodia agreed to sustain open dialogue and avoid actions that could escalate tensions following a trilateral meeting during the 48th ASEAN Summit.
Marcos, who hosted Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, said the Philippines facilitated the talks as ASEAN chair to support peaceful discussions on the two countries’ border dispute.
Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to restraint, communication, and constructive engagement amid renewed tensions over contested border territories and maritime claims.
Thailand and Cambodia also agreed to direct their foreign ministers to continue discussions aimed at preventing further escalation and promoting regional stability.
Marcos likewise announced the extension of the ASEAN Observer Team’s mandate until July and reiterated the Philippines’ commitment to helping both nations pursue a peaceful resolution through dialogue.
