Assistant Ombudsman Mico Clavano said alleged kickbacks linked to Sen. Joseph “Jinggoy” Estrada in flood control projects have reached over P573 million based on case records.
He said the amount reflects accumulated illicit payouts allegedly delivered through a layered system in the budget process, despite earlier claims of no documented budget insertions.
The figure is lower than the P355 million previously cited by a whistleblower during congressional hearings.
The Sandiganbayan is set to hear Estrada’s graft and plunder cases, with 13 graft charges now pending against him.
Estrada denied the allegations and said he will exhaust all legal remedies, citing concerns over due process and evidence evaluation.
