P3.34-BILLION SUC BUDGET CUT DRAWS CRITICISM FROM TEACHERS’ GROUP

The Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT) condemned the P3.34-billion budget cut for state universities and colleges (SUCs) under the proposed 2027 national budget.

ACT noted that P10.8 billion was allocated for confidential and intelligence funds, with nearly half going to the Office of the President.

Of 116 SUCs, 49 face budget cuts, including the University of the Philippines System, which could lose nearly P2.95 billion.

ACT warned the cuts could hurt education and public health services, including the Philippine General Hospital.

The group urged lawmakers to reject the cuts and restore the P3.34 billion in funding.
