Filipina tennis star Alex Eala suffered an early exit in her mixed doubles debut at the US Open after she and Canadian partner Felix Auger-Aliassime lost to Gael Monfils and Elina Svitolina, 4-1, 4-1.
The husband-and-wife tandem dominated the opening-round match at Louis Armstrong Stadium in New York.
The defeat marked Eala’s first appearance in the US Open mixed doubles event after previously competing in women’s doubles.
Despite the setback, the early exit gives Eala more time to prepare for the US Open singles main draw.
Eala remains one of the Philippines’ leading tennis hopes as she continues her campaign at the Grand Slam tournament.
