The PHP1 billion budget for Project NOAH will help identify undocumented waterways to support flood prevention and emergency response.
The University of the Philippines Resilience Institute said many flood-prone areas are located near buried, altered, or diverted water channels.
The funding will also support high-resolution mapping of major river basins and the Oplan Kontra Baha program.
It will cover detention basin simulations, LiDAR drone surveys, and the use of artificial intelligence for disaster management.
UPRI said the funding should be sustained to ensure science-based and effective flood prevention efforts.
