The Protected Area Management Board (PAMB) met on July 2 to strengthen the conservation and management of a protected area in the Sierra Madre covering parts of Bulacan, Rizal, Laguna, and Quezon.
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR)-Calabarzon said the board discussed law enforcement, environmental compliance, and the protection of indigenous peoples and local communities.
Officials also pushed for the creation of a stronger executive committee and updates to the board’s operational guidelines to improve decision-making and implementation of its mandates.
The PAMB emphasized the need for closer coordination among government agencies, local governments, indigenous groups, and other stakeholders to ensure all activities in the area comply with environmental laws.
The protected area, established in 1977, plays a key role in biodiversity conservation, watershed protection, and disaster risk reduction, and has recently seen enforcement actions against violations such as unauthorized resort construction.
