The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Philippine law enforcement actions involving Chinese nationals are based on evidence and applicable laws, not nationality.
It also assured that foreign nationals’ rights are being respected and that agencies are following proper consular notification procedures under the Philippines-China agreement.
The DFA made the statement in response to concerns raised by the Chinese Embassy over recent apprehensions of Chinese citizens in the country.
It said Philippine agencies are coordinating with Chinese diplomatic officials while investigations and legal processes continue.
The Chinese Embassy, meanwhile, expressed concern over alleged frequent arrests and called for fair treatment and non-discriminatory enforcement.
