12.8% OF FILIPINOS EXPERIENCED MULTIPLE POVERTY INDICATORS – PSA

The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) reported that 12.8 percent of Filipinos were multidimensionally poor in 2024.

The measure considers poverty beyond income, including education, employment, health, housing, water, and sanitation.

Education was the most common deprivation, while housing, water, and sanitation were also major concerns.

Economic Planning Secretary Arsenio Balisacan said the Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) will complement income-based poverty data and help improve government programs.

He added that the government is implementing measures such as adult literacy, affordable housing, healthcare, and food security programs to address poverty.
