The Department of Education (DepEd) launched a P9.6-billion classroom construction program in 2026, supported by local government units (LGUs) to address the country’s long-standing classroom shortage.
The first phase will build 1,200 classrooms through provincial governments and 2,800 prefabricated classrooms directly by DepEd, totaling 4,000 new classrooms nationwide.
The initiative aims to speed up construction, maximize LGU capabilities, and ensure efficient use of public funds while maintaining national oversight.
Governors and teachers expressed strong support, highlighting the program’s potential to improve learning conditions and student outcomes.
DepEd emphasized that the strengthened DepEd–LGU partnership marks a historic collaboration to enhance school infrastructure and provide safer, more conducive classrooms for Filipino students.
