The Department of Agriculture has secured a temporary toll fee waiver for accredited trucks transporting agricultural goods to help lower logistics costs and stabilize food prices.
The exemption, effective April 20 for one month, was coordinated with the Department of Transportation and the Toll Regulatory Board and may be extended after review.
Agriculture Secretary Francisco P. Tiu Laurel Jr. said the move supports President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to cushion farmers and consumers from rising fuel-driven transport costs.
Officials said logistics expenses currently add ₱2 to ₱5 per kilogram to food prices, with the waiver expected to save truck operators up to ₱105 million in total.
The program also allows more accredited trucks to join and aims to prevent supply disruptions while longer-term reforms are being studied.
