Bangsamoro interim Chief Minister Abdulraof Macacua directed governors and mayors across the region to lead the government’s response to flooding and other rain-induced calamities affecting low-lying communities.
During an emergency Cabinet meeting on Thursday, Macacua reminded local officials that they are the first responders in disasters and assured them of support from the Bangsamoro government when needed.
Around 1,000 families have been evacuated to temporary shelters after flash floods inundated several areas in Maguindanao del Norte, Maguindanao del Sur and Tawi-Tawi, according to the Bangsamoro Rapid Emergency Action on Disaster Incidence (READi).
Flooding has also rendered several major roads in Datu Odin Sinsuat, Guindulungan, and Talayan impassable.
Macacua said the Ministry of Social Services and Development has pre-positioned relief goods and hygiene kits for immediate distribution to affected residents.
