The Atin Ito coalition completed its fourth civilian-led mission to the West Philippine Sea by reaching Pag-asa Island despite the presence and shadowing of multiple Chinese Coast Guard vessels and a possible Chinese navy ship nearby.
The MV Kapitan Felix Oca stopped about 2.3 nautical miles south of the island to coordinate with a smaller vessel that delivered food, fuel, and school supplies.
The mission also brought aid to around 500 residents, including fisherfolk affected by rising fuel costs, and held community activities such as a meet-and-greet, distribution of goods, and a cultural concert.
The Philippine Coast Guard monitored Chinese vessels shadowing the mission, with one staying close while others were observed nearby during the voyage.
Atin Ito leaders defended the mission against China’s criticism, saying the continued civilian voyages demonstrate resilience and efforts to normalize Filipino presence in the West Philippine Sea.
