Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr. visited Pag-asa Island on Friday, May 22, to honor and recognize troops stationed in the Kalayaan Island Group for their service.
He praised the soldiers for their professionalism and dedication in defending the country’s western frontier amid tensions in the West Philippine Sea.
Brawner said the troops are risking their lives to maintain peace and protect Philippine sovereignty in the area.
The visit also aimed to boost morale and assess the welfare and operational needs of personnel in remote outposts.
The AFP said such deployments remain vital in securing disputed waters and maintaining national presence in the region.
