Senator Risa Hontiveros visited Pag-asa Island in the Kalayaan Island Group on February 21 to deliver medical services, essential goods, and desalination equipment ahead of her 60th birthday.
The outreach, coordinated with the National Task Force for the West Philippine Sea, the AFP Western Command, and the Philippine Coast Guard, aims to support residents and frontliners in this remote area.
Hontiveros met with local officials and pledged to coordinate with national agencies like DSWD, DOLE, and the Department of Agriculture to provide livelihood programs and infrastructure for fisherfolk.
She also promised to work with the Department of Health to ensure adequate medical equipment and services for the island community.
The senator emphasized that defending Philippine sovereignty requires sustained government presence and tangible support for communities and personnel along the country’s maritime frontier.
