Two Filipino sailors died, and one was critically injured, after the Singapore-flagged cargo vessel M/V Devon Bay, carrying 21 Filipino crew, capsized in the South China Sea on January 23.
Four crew members remain missing while 17 have been rescued, 14 of them in stable condition, according to the Chinese Embassy in Manila.
The vessel, transporting iron ore from Gutalac, Zamboanga del Sur, to Yangjiang, China, sank within the Philippines’ exclusive economic zone near Scarborough Shoal.
The Philippine and Chinese coast guards conducted separate search-and-rescue operations, with Chinese vessels arriving first to assist the sailors.
The Philippine Coast Guard continues to deploy ships and aircraft to locate the missing crew, while K-Line Roro Bulk Ship Management Co., Ltd, manages the incident.
