The Department of Education will expand its subsidy program for private school students to cover over 2.4 million beneficiaries for School Year 2026–2027 under the expanded Government Assistance to Students and Teachers in Private Education (E-GASTPE).
About 990,000 junior high school students and 1.47 million senior high school students will benefit through the ESC and SHS voucher programs to help ease financial burdens and reduce overcrowding in public schools.
Education Secretary Sonny Angara said the initiative ensures that no child stops schooling due to a lack of money and prioritizes low-income families and vulnerable communities.
The program also increases support for private school teachers, raising the salary subsidy to ₱24,000 and introducing stricter screening to ensure aid reaches those most in need.
DepEd said the expanded guidelines under DepEd Order No. 11, s. In 2026, aim to improve access to quality education while balancing student distribution between public and private schools.
