Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III denied protecting anyone amid talks of possibly inviting former House Speaker Martin Romualdez to the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee hearings on anomalous flood control projects.
In a Nov. 6 interview, Sotto said he has never shielded any lawmaker and cited inter-parliamentary courtesy when dealing with sitting House members.
He explained that the Senate typically invites House members only if they are sponsors of specific bills.
Sotto also downplayed the importance of Romualdez’s potential appearance, saying the lawmaker had been mentioned only once.
Meanwhile, Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo “Ping” Lacson announced that the next Blue Ribbon Committee hearing is set for Nov. 14, with a “very important witness” expected to help expedite cases against officials and contractors.
