LAWYER DENIES CLAIMS ROMUALDEZ LEFT PHILIPPINES

Martin Romualdez remains in the Philippines and is prepared to face the Office of the Ombudsman’s preliminary investigation into his alleged links to the multibillion-peso flood control controversy, according to his lawyer.

Counsel Ade Fajardo said Romualdez is continuing his legislative duties and denied claims that he is fleeing the country.

Fajardo also maintained there is no evidence directly linking the lawmaker to the enactment of the 2025 national budget or the implementation of flood control projects.

Meanwhile, youth group SPARK urged the Office of the Ombudsman to publicly disclose the status of corruption cases involving government officials to promote transparency.

The call came after the bail granted to former senator Ramon Revilla Jr. in a malversation case raised concerns about the handling of anti-corruption investigations.
