OMBUDSMAN CITES ROMUALDEZ CAMP IN ‘MALETA BOYS’ RECANTATION

Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla accused the camp of former House Speaker Martin Romualdez of being behind the recantation of four of the 18 so-called “maleta boys” in the flood control project investigation.

The four, who claimed to be former bodyguards of dismissed congressman Zaldy Co, withdrew their allegations that they delivered money-filled suitcases to Romualdez.

Remulla said the four could be charged as accessories after the fact, while Romualdez denied the accusation and called it false and prejudiced.

Meanwhile, Remulla said the Ombudsman will continue to seek government-witness status for former DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan despite a Sandiganbayan ruling keeping him as a co-respondent.

The court had rejected prosecutors’ request to drop graft charges against Bonoan related to an alleged P213-million kickback from an P855-million flood control project in Bulacan.
