Senator Bong Go has called for enhanced health support initiatives to combat cancer, which is the second leading cause of death in the Philippines, claiming over 110,000 lives in 2022.
He emphasized the need for stronger cancer programs and better medical assistance for indigent patients, highlighting the high cost of treatment.
Go has been a consistent advocate for the Cancer Assistance Fund (CAF), a program under the National Integrated Cancer Control Act, which provides financial aid for cancer diagnostics, medications, and treatment.
He also encouraged cancer patients to use Malasakit Centers, which provide a one-stop shop for medical assistance and supported the expansion of Super Health Centers and Regional Specialty Centers to improve access to cancer care, particularly in rural areas.
As National Cancer Awareness Month is observed, Go continues to push for reforms to expand cancer coverage and support through PhilHealth and other health initiatives.
