House Majority Leader Sandro Marcos is urging his colleagues to expedite the passage of the proposed Kalinga Act as Congress resumes its session on May 4.
The measure, filed amid rising global fuel prices, aims to provide automatic and targeted government support for Filipinos affected by inflation and fuel shocks.
Marcos said the bill is intended to protect all sectors, including low-income families, the middle class, and small business owners, from rising costs.
He emphasized that the Kalinga Act would institutionalize a rapid government response system to prevent fuel price spikes from triggering broader economic impacts.
Lawmakers are expected to approve the committee report soon, paving the way for plenary deliberations on the proposal.
