Former Senate President Koko Pimentel III advised senators who may serve as judges in the possible impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte to follow their conscience in deciding the case.
He said lawmakers must carefully weigh the evidence presented by House prosecutors and either convict or acquit based on its sufficiency.
Pimentel also urged the Senate to promptly proceed with the trial, stressing that the Constitution requires it to start “forthwith” once transmitted.
He warned against any move to delay or avoid the proceedings, saying it would go against the Senate’s duty to the public.
Pimentel expressed confidence that Senate leaders understand the need to immediately act on the impeachment case once it reaches the chamber.
