Filipina tennis star Alex Eala defeated Czech player Tereza Valentova, 6-4, 7-6 (7), to advance to the quarterfinals of the Prudential Hong Kong Tennis Open on Thursday, Nov. 5.
The second-seeded Eala displayed determination and composure, overcoming a 3-5 deficit in the second set to secure the victory in nearly two hours.
The win marked her first victory over Valentova after losing to the Czech in their previous two meetings at the Japan Open and Doha Open.
Eala will next face Croatian Antonia Ruzic, who upset sixth-seeded Chinese player Wang Xinyu in the Round of 16.
The world No. 17 Filipina aims to continue her strong run as she moves closer to the Hong Kong Open title.
