Quezon City has launched its climate action program by installing solar power in the first eight of 50 targeted public schools.
Mayor Joy Belmonte said the initiative promotes renewable energy, reduces greenhouse gas emissions, and supports environmental sustainability.
The solar installations, totaling 1,393 panels with 800 kWp capacity, are expected to save over PHP8.5 million annually and benefit more than 28,800 students.
Schools included in the first phase are Camp General Emilio Aguinaldo High School, Carlos P. Garcia High School, and Commonwealth Elementary, among others.
The project follows the city’s recent solarization of government buildings and hospitals, reinforcing its commitment to clean, energy-efficient public services.
