Marikina City Rep. Miro Quimbo said a proposal to replace at least 50% of government vehicles with electric vehicles is being studied by the House mega panel addressing the energy crisis.
The measure was discussed during the first hearing of the Legislative Energy Action Development (LEAD) Council, which focuses on long-term solutions to reduce dependence on oil.
Quimbo said the shift to electric vehicles is seen as a practical step to protect the economy from recurring fuel price shocks.
He added that the transport sector’s heavy reliance on petroleum makes it a key area for energy transition efforts.
The proposal is part of broader discussions on boosting renewable energy and attracting investments in clean technologies.
