President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. said the government is accelerating reforms to make internet services more affordable and reliable, particularly in remote and underserved areas.
He highlighted challenges such as permit delays, right-of-way restrictions, fiber cuts, and power interruptions that limit access to education and economic opportunities.
Key reforms include the Konektadong Pinoy Act, which mandates infrastructure sharing among providers, and the completion of the National Fiber Backbone Project’s first three phases.
The government has also expanded free public Wi-Fi to over 9,500 access points and launched the Bayanihan SIM Card Project to provide students and marginalized communities with subsidized data.
Marcos made the remarks during the Philippine Telecommunications Summit 2026, aimed at rallying stakeholders to strengthen the country’s broadband connectivity.
