Philippine cycling makes a major return to the Asian stage with the 45th Asian Cycling Confederation Track Championships at the Tagaytay City Velodrome, marking the first time the country hosts the event in 31 years.
The opening ceremony also featured the 14th Asian Para Track Cycling Championships and was attended by key officials, including PhilCycling president Abraham Tolentino and ACC head Dato’ Amarjit Singh Gill.
Tolentino acknowledged the national track team is newly revived and cautioned that Filipino cyclists should not be expected to win medals immediately.
Despite modest expectations, the POC chief said the event and the new velodrome could spark a revival of Philippine track cycling.
The competition aims to rejuvenate a sport that once produced champions like three-time SEA Games gold medalist Alfie Catalan.
