Pasig City will launch five new electric minibuses on Monday as part of its Libreng Sakay free-ride program, aiming to ease commuting amid rising oil prices.
Each minibus was acquired for P3,989,600 and will be pilot-tested on underserved and potential public utility vehicle (PUV) routes to improve transport efficiency.
Initially, four routes will operate from SPED on Caruncho Avenue to key destinations, including the Temporary Pasig City Hall, Ligaya in Santolan, One San Miguel Avenue in San Antonio, and Nagpayong in Pinagbuhatan.
Routes 2, 3, and 4 will run only during rush hours to support commuters without disrupting existing PUV operations.
In addition to the minibuses, Pasig City has 12 vehicles ready for deployment, including a diesel bus and six e-tricycles, with more expected in the coming days.
