The Energy Regulatory Commission has ordered Manila Electric Company to refund P9.5 billion in overrecoveries to more than eight million customers over the next six months.
The refund, averaging P0.3448 per kilowatt-hour, will begin in the next billing cycle, with residential consumers receiving about P0.5861 per kWh, or roughly P117 for a household using 200 kWh monthly.
The ERC increased the refund amount by including interest and shortened the refund period from Meralco’s proposed 36 months to six months.
Meralco said it will comply with the order and supports efforts to provide faster relief to consumers.
The refund resulted from a regulatory true-up process that found customers had been charged more than the approved distribution rate during the 2025 regulatory period.
