Marikina City Mayor Maan Teodoro led the payment of P15 million to Manila Water on Dec. 20 to partially settle Barangay Tumana’s P37.2-million debt, which had caused water disconnection affecting around 3,000 residents.
The mayor, along with Rep. Marcy Teodoro and city council members, personally handed over the cheque and oversaw the reopening of Tumana’s 13 water gate valves to restore supply.
Mayor Teodoro said the disconnection posed a serious threat to public health, sanitation, and human dignity, especially for vulnerable residents.
Rep. Teodoro noted that while previous payments reduced the debt from P20 million to P8.8 million, it ballooned over the past two years, leading to the recent cut-off.
The mayor vowed to hold officials accountable for the unpaid debt to prevent similar situations in the future.
