The City Government of Marikina City has restored and reinstalled its iconic giant shoes, once recognized by Guinness World Records as the world’s largest footwear, now displayed at City Hall for public viewing.
Originally crafted in 2002 by a local shoemaking team, the 18-foot leather shoes symbolize the city’s identity as the “Shoe Capital of the Philippines.”
Officials said the landmark had deteriorated due to age and damage from major typhoons before undergoing restoration through a partnership with local organizations.
Mayor Marjorie Ann “Maan” Teodoro said preserving the structure helps honor the city’s heritage and inspire pride in its shoemaking tradition.
The restored landmark is now open for residents and visitors to appreciate Marikina’s cultural legacy.
