President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. urged Filipinos to remain vigilant and discerning of the truth as the nation marked the 128th anniversary of Philippine independence on Friday.
Speaking at Luneta Park, he called on citizens to draw lessons from the sacrifices of national heroes and use them to strengthen freedom and sovereignty.
Marcos also appealed to leaders to prioritize the country’s welfare over personal interests in honoring the legacy of the revolutionaries.
In a separate message, House Speaker Faustino Dy III emphasized that freedom should be accompanied by inclusive progress and opportunities for all Filipinos.
The Independence Day observance comes amid ongoing economic challenges and political issues confronting the country.
