Families of the missing sabungeros filed an obstruction of justice complaint on May 29 against one of the lawyers of businessman Atong Ang, accusing her of giving cash assistance to some families while the case is still ongoing.
The complainants alleged that Atty. Caroline Cruz provided a monthly allowance of ₱40,000 to certain families in exchange for their noncooperation and absence from court hearings.
One complainant claimed that about 20 families may have already accepted the payments, which they said could weaken the case.
Families opposing the alleged arrangement expressed outrage, saying justice was being compromised in exchange for money, while Cruz has yet to issue a response, but previously denied wrongdoing.
The complaint comes as police continue recovering remains from Taal Lake linked to the case, while Ang remains in hiding amid allegations that he masterminded the disappearances.
