The Department of Education (DepEd) will proceed with the pilot implementation of the strengthened senior high school curriculum for Grade 12 in school year 2026–2027 despite ongoing concerns from stakeholders, Education Secretary Sonny Angara said.
Under DepEd Memorandum 036, s.2026, only incoming Grade 12 students who previously completed the revised Grade 11 subjects will be included in the rollout, with core subjects no longer offered in Grade 12.
The revised curriculum retains mandatory work immersion for Technical-Vocational-Livelihood (TechPro) learners, while it remains optional but recommended for Academic Track students, depending on their post-secondary plans.
The decision comes amid reports from EDCOM 2 highlighting persistent literacy gaps, including a high percentage of struggling readers across basic education and low independent reading proficiency among senior high school learners.
Education stakeholders have raised concerns over these challenges, while DepEd maintains that the revised program and ongoing interventions, such as the ARAL initiative, aim to address learning deficits.
