A civil society coalition flagged P735.56 billion in President Marcos’ proposed 2027 budget as vulnerable to political insertions and other anomalies.
The amount includes P140.07 billion for social assistance, P483.51 billion for infrastructure, and P111.98 billion for unprogrammed funds.
The group warned that these allocations could be used for political patronage ahead of the 2028 elections.
It urged lawmakers to ensure greater transparency and closely monitor the funds during budget deliberations.
Meanwhile, officials defended the proposed budget and said safeguards are in place to prevent misuse of public funds.
