Two-time Olympian EJ Obiena qualified for the 2027 World Athletics Championships after clearing 5.90 meters at the Diamond League’s Zurich leg on Friday, Aug. 28.
The 30-year-old vaulter reached the mark on his first attempt, securing his spot in next year’s championships in Beijing, China.
Obiena finished fifth overall after also clearing 5.50m and 5.65m before clearing 5.90m on his final attempt.
It will be his fifth World Championships appearance, after winning silver in 2023 and bronze in 2022.
World No. 1 Armand Duplantis won the Zurich event with a 6.25m meet record.
